Speech about my grandfather Essay

For those who don’t know me, my name is Pooja. I want to say a few words in memory of my grandfather. On December 17, 2001 my mom and myself immigrated to CA for a better prospect. From that day till his last breath my grandfather took up the responsibility of being a father figure to my brother Raj and I, since our father passed when we were young. Papa was the best gift given by God to my family and me. He meant everything to us and every moment I cherished with him was Priceless. Since the 4th grade till now, my Papa has always been there for me. He would drop me and pick me up from school, make sure I was fed and also allowed me to participate in my extra curricular activities like Piano class, and Swimming by helping pay for the expenses.

As years went by he taught me how to drive, and was very proud when I got my license. Papa was always there for every graduations and all my talent shows. I remember the time when I graduated from Middle School and was given the president’s award of excellence. Papa was stunned to see how great I was doing and in return he would always reward me by treating me out, as I love to eat. When I was in High School Papa was always there for me whenever I needed help. He was dedicated to my education and every time I would bring up the topic of me getting a job while going to school he would say no and tell me to just focus on studies. What I have accomplished today would have been impossible without him.

I would like to share some of the funny moments that I had with my grandpa as my Papa had a great sense of humor. For example every Friday would be Papa and Pooja’s day. We would always go grocery shopping at Costco and as we would go shopping I would ask him Papa can I get this item and he would say NO because he wanted to see my reaction and I would say OKAY PAPA and after a few minutes he would say OKAY GO AND GET It as he always wanted to see a smile on my face. It would be for anything that I wanted like Starbucks, Clothes, Gas money etc he would do the same thing. My Grandpa was a very down to earth person, carrying, hardworking, trustworthy, patient, and loving.

There is no amount of words that I could ever fill this page or enough words in my heart to describe what a great person he was to my family and me. Although I will miss tremendously, I am fortunate I had Papa in my life and I have been blessed with so many good memories. Papa I know that you are here in spirit and I will never forget the lessons you taught me or how you touched my life and I will treasure your memory forever. I love you Papa always and May you RIP.
